This week on Ebay we are offering up these 2 vintage Funk Drumming music books.
I’ve had these in among my drumming books for at least 25 years and I thought there would be somebody out there that was interested in having them.

Both of these books are from back in the day, 1980/81, but are still relevant and in excellent condition.

These are ‘older’ books but the basics of funk drumming haven’t changed much since then. They still have some value, tips, instruction and transcriptions that could be of benefit to a modern drummer.
I have seen on the Interweb that Latham’s book is still being published. This 1980 copy does NOT have any cassettes or CDs with it. There’s an ad on the back cover where you could order the cassettes separately, but the book originally came with none. I see the ‘current’ version has an accompanying CD. This copy is just the book, as originally published in 1980. A first edition?
These are interesting and fun to look thru. From the days before electronics, click tracks, loops and digital gimmicks. The drummer still had to create and keep the Funky beat, not some machine.
Fun to see how some things have changed from 1980 and also to see how certain Funk rudiments have stayed constant thru the years.
These are both in excellent condition, but Latham’s book has the outer cover pulled away from the staples. Both have the former drummer’s name on the front in small writing. Not a big deal.
These are gently read, gently used, but still very nice, very clean, and complete. Other than the small name on the front and a music store stamp inside the Latham book. No writing, marks, notations inside. Clean, white, bright. Very cool to look at.
I’ve had these sitting around for many years. Fun to look at and the instructional bits, technique and tips really haven’t changed much since then. Cool stuff!
I tried to show everything in the photos. I included pictures of the backs, which give more info and pictures of the contents page, to show a better idea of what’s in these 2 books.
I’m sure there’s somebody out there that would love having them. I’m too old and too arthritic to play much anymore, especially keeping up a Funky rhythm, and it’s time to pass them on to the next generation. Again, it’s all in good shape and I’m sure you’ll like them.
